Don Trobaugh, CIA, CFSA, CPEA
Don is the Principal of Don Trobaugh & Associates. He has 32 years of audit experience including serving as the director of internal audit and audit manager for multi-national billion dollar corporations. His audit experience includes the manufacturing, chemical, oil and gas, advertising, insurance, retail industries and non-profit originations. He has audit experience in nine foreign countries.
Don was a manufacturing controller and IT manager and served as advisor to the National Commission of Fraudulent Financial Reporting. He provides internal control, ethics, fraud support services, quality assurance reviews, and merger / acquisition services worldwide. Don also provides operational auditing, fraud, and CIA training seminars. His presentations are based on continued research and attendees are provided with simple easy to understand and remember audit shop suggestions. Don developed the initial policy background for the IIA fraud standard and was instrumental in the early development of the International Standards. His procedures for detecting frauds have uncovered in excess of 17 million dollars and he has supported management in closing over 20 billion dollars in acquisitions.
Don is a graduate of Virginia Tech and member of the Beta Alpha Psi accounting fraternity. He is a Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Financial Service Auditor, and a Certified Professional Environmental Auditor. He is an active member of the Institute of Internal Auditors and has held a number of local and International offices including president of the Triad Chapter, District Reprehensive and Regional Director, Chairman of the Southern Regional Conference, Chairman of the Professional Standards Committee, International Secretary, Vice Chairman of Professional Development, Executive Committee member, Society Emeritus, IIA Board of Directors, Chairman of the IIA Board Reorganization Task Force, Chairman of the Professional Standards Investigation Committee, and Co-Chairman of the Ethics Committee. He is a IIA Distinguished Faculty Member. The Triad Chapter established the Don Trobaugh Professional Education Endowment Fund for his work in expanding member education. He has been a member of the Professional Standards, Seminar and Membership international committees. Don is a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors, National Association of Financial Service Auditors, and National Board of Environmental Auditors.
