Duke Continuing Studies meets the needs of Human Resources professionals at all phases of their careers. Through a partnership with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), we offer several programs designed to meet your professional needs.
For those new to HR, we offer The Essentials of Human Resources, a program designed to provide a true introduction to the various components of HR. The program is created for those professionals who have taken on HR responsibilities or those who are new to the field. This two-day program will allow you to expand your knowledge and enhance your career.
For experienced HR professionals, we offer the Human Resource Management program which prepares professionals for the national certification exam given twice yearly by the Society for Human Resource Management. Students choose the level of the test, either as a SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP™) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP™) based typically on their years of experience. The program uses the SHRM Learning System® for SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP preparation materials developed by SHRM. The program is taught by professionals with SPHR and SHRM-SCP™ certification and “real world” human resources experience in a convenient evening format and are offered in both Raleigh and Durham. An Intensive HR Management course that meets over 4 full days and covers the same material as the standard course is also offered each year.
For those HR professionals who are already certified as a SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR or SPHR, we offer HR CE Courses, an opportunity for learners to earn up to 14 PDUs or HR CE Credits through online training. Courses available include compensation, employee selection, equal employment opportunity, performance management, talent management and career development. All courses are offered 100% online and are self-paced. Participants may choose from two training options – purchasing courses individually on an ad hoc basis or as a single discounted package of courses. Completion of these courses/package will earn the HR professional recertification credit issued by both SHRM and the HR Certification Institute.
