Paralegal Studies - Summer Intensive
Requirements
Admission Criteria
Admission to this program is limited. All applicants must hold either an Associate's Degree or a Bachelor's Degree. In addition, students must have both word processing and comprehensive Internet skills, as well as regular access to a computer and fluency in the English language.
Completion Requirements
Students must successfully complete the Essential Skills curriculum plus four substantive courses. Class projects, including library research, exams, and a comprehensive final will be administered. Participants must achieve at least 70% cumulatively on the substantives, as well as 70% on the comprehensive final in order to earn the certificate. Since this is a non-credit program, students are not assigned a final grade in the course. Transcripts will be issued upon request with all course work marked either “complete” or “incomplete”.
Attendance Policy
Students are expected to attend all classes as scheduled. In the event that a student must miss a class, the student must notify the instructor and discuss how missed work might be completed. The Duke Paralegal Program adheres to a strict 70% attendance policy in both the Essential Skills portion of the program and in each of the four substantive classes. If a student violates the attendance policy, he or she will be asked to leave the program.
Student Conduct
While enrolled in the Duke Paralegal Certificate Program, students are expected to exhibit appropriate classroom behavior. Students who behave in the classroom in such a way that the educational experiences of other students and/or the instructor’s course objectives are disrupted are subject to removal from the program.
In the event that a student must withdraw from the program due to unforeseen circumstances, or in the event that a student does not successfully complete the program, the student may elect to reenroll in a subsequent offering of the Duke Paralegal Program within one year.
