Are books and a parking permit included in the cost of tuition?
Yes, books (if applicable) and one parking permit per student are included in the cost of tuition. Permits will be distributed on the first day of class and must be returned on the last day of the program as they will be used again for other offerings.
What are the education requirements for this program?
It is recommended that students have a minimum of an Associate’s Degree to register for this program; however, it is not required.
After registering, when will I receive additional program details?
Registered students will receive additional program details via email no less than 7 days prior to the start of the program.
Is access to a computer required during this program?
There are required online components to the curriculum so students must have regular access to a computer outside of the classroom during the length of the program. Computers are not required for time spent in the classroom.
Is tuition assistance available for this program?
Yes. A 2-part payment plan and several loan options are available. Please see Funding Sources page for more information.
How often is this program offered?
This program is offered once per year and begins in the fall (September typically). Registration generally opens up about two months prior to the start of the program.
How do I earn the certificate of completion from Duke Continuing Studies?
Students who participate in and complete all activities/assignments, complete final capstone project, as well as attend 90% of the program (four absences allowed), and pay tuition when due, will receive a certificate of completion from Duke Continuing Studies.
Will I be certified as a technical writer when I complete this program?
No. You will not be “certified” as a technical writer upon completion of the Duke program. You will receive a completion “certificate” acknowledging that you have met the requirements of the program.

Can I register for just a single course in the program? Example: Technical Writing Workshop
This program is only sold as a package, and as such, students must complete all courses to earn the certificate of completion.
Does this program offer any job placement for graduates?
No, students are responsible for securing their own employment upon completion of the program.
