WHAT TO BRING
Linens will be provided. If you like to get out and exercise, you may want to bring your favorite outdoor gear -- a bicycle, softball and glove, tennis or fishing gear, flashlight, binoculars, hiking boots, a wildflower book, and most definitely comfortable walking shoes. Dress is very casual, but please be prepared for warm days, chilly nights, and the possibility of rain. You may bring a laptop and printer if you wish. Kanuga has a wireless Internet connection in the lobby. No telephones in the rooms. You are also welcome to bring any musical instruments, snacks, and your own favorite beverages. Kanuga has a canteen on premises where you may buy soft drinks, snacks, toiletries, sweatshirts, and local crafts.
BOOKS
If you have any books on writing that you've found especially helpful, you might want to bring them (with your name boldy inscribed) for our temporary community lending library. If you have books of your own to sign and sell, by all means bring them. Kanuga Bookstore will also have books on hand from our faculty that will be available for sale and signing during the week.
SPECIAL FIELD TRIP
Kanuga is within a few miles of the Carl Sandburg House, occupied for 22 years by one of the country's most prominent 20th century writers who produced poetry, folksongs, biographies, and lectures on American life. The 30-acre national park provides admission to Sandburg's antebellum house, the 1900's dairy goat barn, sheds, rolling pastures, mountainside woods, walking/hiking trails, two small lakes, ponds, flower and vegetable gardens, and an orchard. We'll organize an optional afternoon field trip with our own special tour at the site. Admission is $5.
