Jump Starting the College Search Process is designed to equip college-bound students with the skills to explore their college options and to successfully navigate the college application process. Participants will learn to evaluate colleges, to find the best fit for their needs, and understand the various parts of the application process.
This weekend workshop is open to students in grades 10 and 11 during the 2009-2010 academic year. Sessions on the College Search process and College Selectivity will be complemented by programs on Writing the College Essay, The College Visit and Interview and SAT Tips and preparation. Students will begin to generate their own college lists by learning about and using resources on the internet and students will engage in interactive activities that help them to understand the admissions process from multiple perspectives.
The most distinctive feature of this weekend program is the individual attention each student will receive from his or her admissions counselor. Each student will be assigned to a small counseling group and will meet with their counselor for guidance and feedback. The admissions counselors bring extensive experience as current high school college counselors and university admissions officers.
The workshop will be held in the East Campus Union Building “Marketplace” in the Upper East Classroom. Parking will be available for students at the Bishops House on East Campus. For directions to the Bishops House parking area, please click here. There will be a staff member present to direct students from the Bishops House to the East Campus Union Building. If you have questions or need directions please contact us at (919)-684-2827.
