Think you have what it takes to run your own business? Got ideas for a start up? Want to design a product and then “market” your model? This workshop will give you the opportunity to experience how engineers design and build new products that directly impact people’s lives.  In order to impact the most people, you will also experience how entrepreneurs use market research as a part of the product design process to drive marketing campaigns.

Working in teams, your group will design and build a new product from available materials. Graduate and undergraduate students in the Pratt School of Engineering, under the direction of Dr. Paul Klenk, will conduct these sessions.  You will also learn marketing strategies that your group will use to present its design to a panel of “potential investors.”  Malinda Todd and Betsy DeCampo from North Carolina Rural Entrepreneurship through Action Learning (NC REAL) will facilitate this session.

The workshop will be held in the Hudson Hall Engineering Building on Duke’s West Campus.  The drop off and pick up location will be at the Traffic Circle on Science Drive. For directions to the drop off location on Science Drive, please click here. A staff member will be present at the drop off and pick up location to escort your child to the Hudson Hall Engineering Building, which is located beyond the Science Drive Traffic Circle.  If you have questions or need directions please contact us at (919)-684-2827.
