What organisms thrive in the unique habitat that exists between the land and the open ocean? What is the human impact on this environment? Explore and survey the ecology and adaptations of the life found in the estuarine and coastal habitats at the Duke Marine Lab!


Investigate the marine life that exists in coastal habitats through an engaging series of presentations, field trips, and hands-on activities. Learn to identify the physical and biological characteristics that make up estuary and salt marsh ecosystems. Discover local estuarine flora and fauna and their adaptations through hands-on fieldwork. Gain experience with laboratory skills and field sampling techniques. Discuss the human impact on estuaries and other marine ecosystems with fellow peer researchers.
By the end of the experience, you will develop an appreciation for this unique environment and enhance your knowledge of career opportunities in marine science!
